Ken's Bio
Home
As a small boy, I was fantastic at art, everybody admired my work.

Then, as I got older, they and I realised that it wasn't really that good.

The only tuition I ever had, was years ago at night school.
My tutor was a great, laid back guy, named Alan Swainstone-Cooper, better known as the clarinettist in the 'Original Temperance Seven.'
The lessons only lasted about a year..., I think we were only really interested in our 'after school' drinking bouts.

Consequently, in my later years...I am now 62,             I realised I really had to work harder at my art. My ego and pride couldn't stand the negative comments.

Nowadays I am quite pleased with what I paint and the degree of competence I have attained. I have won a few awards and also a couple of prizes. Also I have just been entered in two exhibitions in Essex.

I hope you like my work and that you will feel the need to hang some in your home, or office etc. I have found that I mainly favour watercolours, but will use oils, or acrylics, should it take my fancy to do so.

My preferred subjects are; landscapes, wild animals and seascapes.

My paintings are usually signed Ken Newbury, but on occasions, I sign my name, K. J. Newbury

April 1944;

I was born and raised in London's East End.

The bombs were still dropping when I was born, consequently I grew up in a very rough area.
People had nothing and basically fought for survival, but the one thing they did have in plenty, was courage.
In most streets, if one family had a problem, then they all had a problem. Such was the camaraderie that existed amongst them.

I lived all of my childhood in the East End of London.
I actually lived in the borough of Stepney, which was very close to the Docks and so, most of the families had somebody who was a Docker or associated with the Docks in some way.

I worked originally on the tug-boats that crowded the river Thames and in later years worked on the Pleasure Boats that plied for hire up and down the Thames.

Many of you, have probably taken a trip on the boats, as the crew gave you a commentary about the places of interest that you passed on the foreshore.

These days I live in Essex, UK, with my wife Patricia.

Having sold paintings in most mediums, I finally decided to concentrate on painting in Watercolours.

Although they are declared by many to be the hardest medium to work in, I find them most rewarding and am happy and proud to call myself a Watercolourist.

Incidentally, over the last couple of years, I found time to write a book, a crime fiction account of the drug smuggling exploits of East End gangsters. I hope you like it?

I have included a link here, so that you are able to read the synopsis and see the cover which I designed myself.

The sex chapters were of course written by a ghost writer, as were the numerous swear words....., Ha! Ha!
